"Open markets offer the only
realistic hope of pulling billions of people
in developing countries out of abject
poverty, while sustaining prosperity in the
industrialized world."

'1.4 BILLION
REASONS' Presentation
This Fairtrade Fortnight we will be co-hosting a
presentation event in Eastbourne Town Hall from
the Global Poverty Project called '1.4 Billion
Reasons'.
1.4 billion people on our planet live in extreme
poverty, living on less than £1 a day for
food, water, education, shelter and medical care.
The Global Poverty Project's mission is to
increase the number and effectiveness of people
taking action to see an end to extreme poverty.
The presentation will be on Thursday 8th March
at 7:30pm
in the Assembly Rooms in the Town Hall.
Entrance is FREE
so please save the data and spread the word!
Originating in Australia this
presentation is traveling the world, inspiring and
empowering audiences in its path. Already
delivered to over 100,000 people, The Global
Poverty Project is not after your money. The
presentation explains how your everyday actions -
in what you learn, say, buy, give and do - can be
connected to the ending of extreme poverty. Small
actions in your life can create big opportunities
for the world's poorest people - see HERE.

Film screening of
'Amazing Grace' at
Eastbourne Town Hall!
Earlier
in October and in partnership with Eastbourne
Cultural Communities Network we screened the
excellent and inspiring film Amazing Grace in
Eastbourne's Town hall
The film follows William Wilberforce through the
campaign that lead to the abolition of the British
slave trade. Wilberforce was elected to the
House of Commons when only 21 and dedicated his
life to the Reformation of Manners in order to
build a just and fair society. He advocated prison
reform, better hospital care, improving conditions
of the poor and other areas of social reform but
his passion was to abolish slavery in all its
forms. In 1807 the Commons voted to abolish the
slave trade throughout the British Empire, but it
took until 1833 for total abolition to be
achieved. Three days after this latter event, in
July 1833, Wilberforce died.
This event was sponsored by Eastbourne Borough
Council.
