Fairtrade cotton producer visits Eastbourne!

On Monday 3rd March a Fairtrade producer visited our from Mali to speak in the Town Hall, Park college and Bishop Bell School. 


It was a gread opportunity to hear the difference Fairtrade makes to producers in Developing Countries and how small changes in your shopping habits can have a big impact in the lives of others.

Fairtrade Cookery Winner!

This delicious looking photo was the winning entry of the Fairtrade cooking photo competition taken by Daniel Minty called "Bitter chocolate and cinnamon mousse with mango sorbet and mango crisps".  Have a go at making it yourself from the recipe vailable here.

Thursday 1st March Fairtrade Open Mic Night
winners :Ben Nicholas, Alex Speirs and Danney Pulleyn. Each of them recieved a bottle of fairtrade wine. Thankyou to everyone who participated in the event.

Renaissance Choir for Fairtrade

Eastbourne's Renaissance singers sang a selection of songs for Fairtrade Fortnight with readings.  See the video here

The Eastbourne choir performed in terminus road for Fairtrade as shoppers stopped and listened and visited our Ask for Fairtrade stall.

Fairtrade Eastbourne had a packed programme of events during Fairtrade Fortnight 2006. Here are some of the highlights...

Oxfam Shop, Terminus Road
A catwalk show featuring a range of Oxfam's bridal and event wear with Matt Wilkinson and James Ward from Fairtrade Eastbourne as the featured Grooms!

Monday March 6 - Sunday March 19
Fairtrade Schools Poster Competition Exhibition
Hullats Furniture Store, Arndale Centre
Over 220 entries from local schools were on display in the town centre throught Fairtrade Fortnight. Three winners were eventually chosen by a judging panel that included Eastbourne's Mayor, Cllr Graham Marsden, Eastbourne Herald Editor Peter Austin, East Magazine Co-Editor Adam McNaught-Davis and Clive Gross from Fairtade Eastbourne.
The winners were:
Overall Winner - Liam Black of Lindfield School
Senior Winner - Rebekah Taylor of Willingdon Community School
Junior Winner - Kiera Howard of Bourne Junior School

Fairtrade Rugby Match
Eastbourne 3rd XV vs Crowborogh 3rd XV
Eastbourne Rugby Football Club
Fairtrade refreshments and raffle that raised over £60 for Oxfam and the Fairtrade Eastbourne Campaign accompanied a comfortable 20-0 victory for Eastbourne on a bright but cold afternoon!

The amazing 11 piece classic soul tribute band On The Button raised £100 for Fairtrade Eastbourne in their first ever Eastbourne show!

Monday March 20
Fairtrade Eastbourne Wine Tasting Day
Carlisle Restaurant, Carlisle Road
A whole day of Fairtrade product tasting aimed at Eastbourne's business, hospitality and tourist sectors to raise awareness of the products now available. Deputy Mayor Cllr Colin Belsey joined business people from across the town to sample over a dozen Fairtrade Wines, many supplied by event sponsor The Sussex Co-Operative Society.
