MP signs against new coal power 18/07/08 Eastbourne MP Nigel Waterson added his name to a list of people and organisations calling on the Government to halt its plans to build a new generation coal-fired power stations. E.ON’s application to build the station at Kingsnorth will emit over eight million tonnes of carbon dioxide every year and was approved by the Local Counci.

Greenpeace is warning that if the PM gives the green light to a new coal-fired station at Kingsnorth in Kent it would lock Britain into huge carbon emissions for decades and signal Brown’s surrender on the UK’s long term climate change targets.

Nigel Waterson MP said “We all agree on the need to tackle climate change, so it is bizarre that this Government want to embark on a massive development of new coal power stations.  We are all paying the price for their lack of a coherent energy policy.  There should be a full public inquiry into this flawed plan.  'Business as usual' is no answer to climate change.”    Visit the Active East page
