Greenpeace
As Greenpeace
Active Supporters at a local level, we help to deliver Greenpeace
campaigns and raise awareness, funds and support, using diverse and
innovative methods.
|
|

You could Get Active with Greenpeace and help to make a real
difference; through activities such as writing to your local MP,
helping out at local campaign deliveries, or participating in
non-violent direct actions like closing down Esso petrol stations as
part of the Stop Esso campaign. |
|
|

Greenpeace actually makes changes. All their campaigns are
strategically planned for maximum effect. All local groups across the
Country work on the same current campaign. For example, when we are
outside Sainsbury’s campaigning to end beam trawling, so are
another 100 groups across the Country at the same time. |
Current Campaign
Light Bulb Campaign
|
We
are working across Europe on the international climate campaign
project to secure tough minimum efficiency standards for light bulbs
which would effectively ban the sale of old fashioned, incandescent
bulbs. Greenpeace has written to all major lighting retailers asking
them to support forthcoming EU legislation on efficiency standards
and to voluntarily remove the least efficient products (starting with
lighting) from their shelves ahead of this legislation. Curry’s,
the Co-op and Habitat have committed to remove incandescents from
their shelves before the end of 2011, the deadline of the UK
government’s voluntary phase out agreement with retailers.
Greenpeace believes that to take such a simple step as switching over
to efficient lighting nearly 5 years is too long, given the urgency
of climate change. If light bulbs can’t be changed in 2007, we’ll
have little chance of tackling all the other energy wasting goods on
sale, and making the bigger changes required to meet and exceed
climate change targets.
